Cops seek truck that caused fatal McHenry crash

The crash happened Monday just before 4 p.m. about a quarter-mile west of Bunker Hill Road on U.S. Highway 14, according to a statement by the sheriff’s department. There the semitrailer was headed west when it crossed over the center line, causing a Buick sedan headed in the opposite direction to swerve right of the road. The Buick’s driver then swerved back onto the road, cross the eastbound lane and collided head-on with another westbound semitrailer driven by a Wisconsin man.

First, our prayers go our to the family and friends of the victim.  While we do not wish to cause them any further distress, we feel that this tragedy highlights a danger that can be mitigated and thus too important not to comment on.

This accident was preventable.   While the driver of the truck that crossed over the center line could have prevented the accident and is ultimately at fault, the victim may also have been able to prevent this accident.

If you are forced off the road by a vehicle, it is most often best to stay on the shoulder and come to a stop before trying to re-enter the roadway.  This is especially true with “soft shoulders” such as gravel or grass.  It is very easy to temporarily lose control of your vehicle trying to get it back on the road from these surfaces.

If  you are run off the road, the best course of action is to come to a safe stop, take a breath, and then get back on the road safely.

Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!
